The Southland in the Springtime
I have returned to Florida after my 21-day swing through the Southeast. As I progressed north through Georgia, South Carolina and then North Carolina, all three were on the cusp of a truly glorious Spring riot.
The forests of North Carolina were slightly pink with buds but no leaves yet. Daffodils and crocus were everywhere and the breeze smelled of fresh Spring. The rhododendron explosion is only a fortnight away, I think. The South Carolina countryside was covered with purple fields of Henbit and I was serenaded by birds happily doing their bird business. Georgia's forests were raining pollen while preparing for the full-onset of Azaleas in all their resplendent glory.
There was something comforting and rejuvenating about slowing down and being out in nature with its irrepressible rhythms this month. It was deeply soothing to witness that the natural world moves on, unhindered by the war or the price of oil or the pandemic. All focused onward in a rush to Spring; with a bold statement that Winter has passed and now is our time to sprout up and push forward.
My travels were, for the most part sunny, easy and unrushed. Rosievan was perfect - very comfortable, even cozy, in the colder weather. There are a few repairs and tweaks to be done as I plan the next adventure which I believe will be West and then North.
I hope you each are slowing to notice and celebrate the arrival of Spring in your own worlds.
Nice waterfall to recall come July. And a double rainbow!
