Lowcountry, South Carolina

Tonight's missive comes to you from Mt Pleasant just outside of Charleston, SC. This is my first posting from my own wi-fi set up in Rosievan. I've mastered several of the intricacies which had caused me worry - filling the fresh water tanks, emptying black and grey water tanks and squeezing under an 11 foot overpass without incident.
It's about 4pm on a Wednesday and the beer is cold. The fresh shrimp for dinner, that I bought at the Lemon Island Seafood pull-off, are just beginning to boil.
Today I meandered north through the low country of South Carolina. Winding along the salt marshes and under the Spanish moss. I spent a couple hours in Beaufort, SC with its many views of the water and the civil war.
I stopped in a camping shop called "High Ground", by my GPS it was 8ft above sea level. I guess that counts for higher ground around here.
Pat Conroy was quoted on the wall of the Port Royal Sound museum (https://portroyalsoundfoundation.org/) I visited today:
"I could feel myself relax and change whenever I returned to the lowcountry and saw the vast green expanses of marsh, feminine as lace, delicate as calligraphy."
On a sunny and warm, blue-sky-day like this, I can understand and agree with his sentiment.
I love this update. It sounds magical there.! Love all the new learnings that you are experiencing! As a Midwest native, I appreciate the “high ground” elevation references :-)
I love Beaufort, too. I visited from a boat on the intercoastal waterway. Glad to know where you and rosievan are.
Nicely done Maria. Beaufort SC is a national treasure in my view. Pat Conroy is another worth reading. Thank you, keep 'em comin'
